Pense em um lugar com história. Melhor: que se confunde com o desenrolar do rock gótico na Inglaterra. Se disse mentalmente: Batcave, acertou em cheio. E para celebrar, o lendário clube londrino ganhou uma super caixa para deleite dos colecionadores do formato físico.

Configurando-se como uma versão para lá de turbinada da coletânea editada em 1983 pela London Records, Young Limbs Rise Again – The Story Of The Batcave Nightclub 1982 – 1985 chega sob chancela do carimbo Demon Records em três edições: 5CDs + livreto de 80 páginas; 6LPs + livreto de 80 páginas, e vinil duplo.

No registro, constam faixas de bandas que frequentemente circulavam por lá; seja no palco ou simplesmente como expectadores da vida noturna da casa. E “os que importavam”. Em outras palavras, a nata do gótico, protagonizada por nomes como The Sisters Of Mercy, Joy Division, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure e The Birthday Party.

Além de “estudantes de escola de arte, ex-punks e psychobillys, garotos e garotas, gays, heterossexuais, não-seis e não-se-importam, feirantes de Camden e Kensington Market, posseiros profissionais, moleques desempregados, moleques em bandas, jornalistas musicais norturnos, fashionistas ousados, andróginos aleatórios e até mesmo um punhado de popstars genuínos”, como diz a nota da gravadora.

Dentre eles, “Nick Cave, Siouxsie Sioux, Marc Almond, Robert Smith, [todo o] Killing Joke e Sigue Sigue Sputnik. Todos eram bem-vindos para se amontoar, admirar seus cabelos, roupas rasgadas, descoloridas e emborrachadas, e maquiagem de máscara da morte e apreciarem a mistura musical inebriante da pista de dança de pioneiros do pós-punk com batidas pesadas, ícones forasteiros como Wayne County e The Cramps, e uma pilha oscilante de singles luxuriosos de artistas do glam rock como T. Rex e The Sweet.”

O compilado histórico também não deixa de ser uma homenagem ao saudoso Olli Wisdom, do grupo anfitrião, Specimen. A seleta foi uma assinatura conjunta entre a Demon, Jon Klein (Specimen, Siouxsie and The Banshees), Jonny Slut (fundador de outro icônico clube noturno, o Nag Nag Nag) e Sophie Chery (Sexbeat).

“Era uma lâmpada para todos os malucos e pessoas como eu que queriam um pouco mais da vida. Aberrações, esquisitões, desviantes sexuais…”, diz Slut sobre o lugar e sua atmosfera na época. “Há pessoas por aí que sempre serão atraídas por algo brilhante, excitante… Era mais Gotham City do que Aleister Crowley.”
